Early morning accident takes a life in Ohio

On Behalf of | Sep 21, 2018 | Car Accident, Firm News |

An accident that occurred on Interstate 76 in Mahoning County around 5:00 a.m. on Sept. 15 left one person dead and numerous others with injuries.

A Suburban that was traveling in the eastbound lanes reportedly came to a stop in the road. It was in the right lane at the time. Behind it was a tractor-trailer. That truck did not stop in time and slammed into the back of the Suburban. The impact pushed both the Suburban and the semi into the concrete barrier. They also struck a guardrail.

Police officers responded to the crash and found that one of the people riding in the Suburban was already dead. The driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Three other people who were in the Suburban also suffered life-threatening injuries. They were taken to the same medical center as the driver. The semi driver did not get hurt in the crash.

The accident snarled traffic for a long time, as the lanes were closed down all the way until 7:30 a.m. Eventually, police could get the left lane going again, but it still took time for the backup to clear.

Whenever tractor-trailers get involved in accidents with cars and other types of vehicles, there is a serious amount of risk for everyone else in the crash because of the size and weight differences between the vehicles. Those who get hurt, or the loved ones of those who pass away, must know all of their legal options for seeking compensation for medical treatment, lost wages, burial costs and more.
